Here are some photos of Aichi Expo, starting with a few of the pavilions. Here is Nate with the giant platypus in the Aussie exhibit...plus one with the main expo mascot, Morizo.
The Japanese pavilion is strikingly different from the rest in form, especially on the outside with its bamboo construction. After going through the spherical theater, you walk down to a large open area that is curiously unstructured and doesn't seem to have any explanation that I could find. But at times the outside of the globe/theater is illuminated. Outside, next to this pavilion is the black monolith of the Nagoya city pavilion, a huge kaliedoscope. Uphill from these exhibits is the WonderWheel...
And these give you some idea of the overall site...this promenade links the 6 "Global Commons" areas. The sections that have dark material for flooring become scorchingly hot in the afternoons...its like walking onto an oven. Luckily, yesterday clouds from the approaching typhoon were starting to streak across Japan, so that kept the heat down a bit.
